Important to consider is that blackjack strategies are mathematical strategies based on probability. They are designed to work over time. In an individual situation, it may well be that you lose your hand if you follow the strategy. This is one of the reasons why many players prefer to play "on feeling" instead of applying a mathematically correct blackjack strategy.

The usefulness of proper blackjack strategy has been known for a long time. In 1957, The Four Horsemen (Roger Baldwin, Wilbert Cantey, Herbert Maisel and James McDermott) published the book "Playing Blackjack to Win" which featured a basic blackjack strategy. The book became very popular, especially in the United States, which helped to spread the knowledge about how to use blackjack strategy at the game tables. The authors later released several other books where they further improved on their strategy.
