Best Baccarat Guide Part 3

To determine the value of a hand, the two cards are added, whereupon 10 are deducted. This means, for example, that a 7 and a 4 gives the value 1 and not 11. A 2 and 3 gives the value 5, but two 9 gives the value 8 because nine plus nine is 18 and ten is pulled away. If the total of the player is less than 6, which includes for example a 9 and a 2, then another card is given to the hand, and if it is higher than 7, the hand will stand.

There are also places where the bank's hand gets an extra card, but they are quite complicated and are presented in tabular form below. It is quite difficult to keep track of when the banco goes short, especially if you are a beginner at punto banco. A total of 9 is the highest possible in the game, and then you automatically win.

If the punto drew a third card, the bank acts as follows (a little more complicated rules):

  • If punto pulled a card of 2 or 3, then the bank will draw an extra card if it has a hand with the value 0 to 4 and stops if the hand is worth 5 to 7.
  • If punto pulled a card with the value 4 or 5, the bank will draw an extra card if it has a hand with the value 0 to 5 and stops if the hand is worth 6 or 7.
  • If the punto drew a card with the value 6 or 7, the bank will draw an extra card if it has a hand with the value 0 to 6 and stays if the hand is worth 7.
  • If punto pulled a card with the value 8, then the bank will draw an extra card if it has a hand with the value 0 to 2 and stays if the hand is worth 3 to 7.
  • If the punto pulled an ace, 9, 10 or a dress card, the bank will draw an extra card if it has a hand with the value 0 to 3 and stops if the hand is worth 4 to 7.

The rules for when the bank draws a third card can also be formulated as follows, in a format that may be easier to remember:

  • If the banco has a total of 2 or less in value on the hand, then banco draws a third card regardless of what it is for the value of the third card.
  • If the total banco has 3 in value on the hand, then banco will draw a third card unless the third card of the third card has not been 8.
  • If banco has a total of 4 in value on the hand, banco will draw a third card if punto's third card had the value 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7.
  • If banco has a total of 5 in hand, then banco will draw a third card if the third point of the dot has a value of 4, 5, 6 or 7.
  • If the banco has a total of 6 in hand value, then banco will draw a third card if the third of the dot's third card had a value of 6 or 7.
  • If the banco total has 7 in value on the hand then banco stops.
